What Our Customers Say

We’re very lucky to have shipped our name labels all over the world, to customers in places as far flung as the Falklands, Hawaii, the USA and Norfolk. But last week we took our first phone order from Greece and it’s not one that will be forgotten in a hurry. 

Emma took the call and all started well. The lovely lady calling from Greece explained she’d placed the order on our website but had issues with the card payment and could she complete the transaction over the phone?

“Not a problem at all Madam, I can do that for you” said Emma, and then her troubles began.  Her problem was simple; her perfect received English pronunciation was completely incompatible with the Greek surname of the customer. And she needed to repeat it back to her.

Sounding like Sue Lawley reading the six o’clock news circa 1982 she started to repeat the name over the phone back to the customer.

The first name was fairly straightforward containing just three syllables; unfortunately the surname was a tad longer. Ok, it was significantly longer.

Tenaciously sticking to the task Emma then started to repeat the surname without seeming to have any idea whatsoever how to complete it. With hindsight a couple of practice attempts may have been sensible.

Like a rabbit stuck in the headlights she continued working through her interpretation of the surname sounding “pops” and “dops” as syllables for what seemed an eternity until fortunately for all concerned, she ran out of breath.

Despite the increasingly loud giggles coming from the customer on the phone (and those of us fortunate to overhear this audio delight) she manfully continued, not breaking poise  or concentration, even mastering the various idiosyncrasies of the address until she finally made it to the last line of it…

ATHENS!

The relief was, to say the least, noticeable as she finally recognised a word which she could pronounce without linguistic assistance.  In a final flurry she even added GREECE to the address without prompting, demonstrating her potential for a future diplomatic or international UN role.

Thankfully everything went through first time and Emma was able to thank the lady for her patience and finally put the phone down slumping on the desk in relief.

The last few days we've had lots of lovely comments from our lovely customers about the labels they've ordered. Of course their only complaint is that they've then got to tagg, sew, stick or iron-on all the labels they've just bought to clothing. Well, we can only help you so much.... but it has got us thinking here at Label HQ about the best songs to listen to whilst labelling clothing all weekend.

Who says life is ever dull here at Label HQ! And so it proved when we recently took the call from Ingrid with an unusual label request. Ingrid was organising a hen do in Brighton and the theme was "The Pink Ladies". As part of the celebrations, the party were getting jackets made up including a pink jacket for the hen with all of their names labelled inside it.

Could we help?

Of course! So, like "greased lightnin'" we mocked up some example labels for Ingrid to choose from and it wasn't long before she knew, "you're the one that I want."

Eggcup Clothing are one of those businesses which you wish YOU owned, or at least had endless supplies of gift vouchers for. Based in Devizes, Claire and Katie seem to have bags of style and skill creating clothing ranges for girls, boys and grown-ups. If that wasn't enough, they also run workshops teaching individuals how to sew. Now, you may think we're bias, because we're about to tell you how we now supply their clothing labels - but we really do admire the quality of their clothing.

As a small, but growing company Eggcup were struggling to find high quality, low volume custom clothing labels. Then they found us.
